RANGELEY — Rangeley burst out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and continued the rout in a 51-35 win over Kents Hill in girls’ basketball Wednesday.

Blayke Morin led the Lakers (10-1) with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jenney Abbott added six points and 16 rebounds while Seve Deery-DeRaps chipped eight points and five steals.

Sara Grenier led Kents Hill (2-7) with 20 points.

After the 13-0 lead in the first, Rangeley held Kents Hill to just six in the second for a 27-6 lead.

Mountain Valley 62, Telstar 29

BETHEL — Brooke Dolloff tossed in 18 points and Sydney Petrie had nine as Mountain Valley took apart Telstar, 62-29, in a girls’ basketball game Wednesday.

The Falcons took a lopsided 36-8 lead at halftime tand cruised the rest of the way.

Dirigo 51, Carrabec 29

NORTH ANSON — Kelsey Hutchins scored 12 points while Emma Lueders added 10 to lead Dirigo to a 51-29 win over Carrabec Wednesday in girls’ basketball.

Dirigo (11-2), playing its second game in as many nights, took a 12-6 lead in the first quarter and then outscored the Cobras 16-2 in the second. Jessica Vaillancourt led Carrabec (5-9) with seven.

CMCC splits

CONCORD, N.H. — In a pivotal YSCC matchup, No. 2 Central Maine Community College dismantled No. 5 New Hampshire Technical Institute, 82-47, in a women’s basketball game Wednesday night.

The Mustangs held the Lynx scoreless for the first eight minutes of the game, using pressure defense to force multiple turnovers and transition layups.

Four CMCC players scored in double figures and 11 of 13 of them found the scoring column.

Freshman Maggie McConkey paced the Mustangs with 15 points and eight rebounds. Maggie Sabine had another double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Susie French finished with 14 points and four steals, and Nohemy Aguila chipped in with 10 points.

Ariel McConkey played an outstanding floor game, tallying six points, seven rebounds and assists.

In the men’s game, NHTI beat CMCC, 87-67.

Cold shooting plagued the Mustangs as they shot 36 percent for the game. Ismail Rios led CMCC with 14 points.

Women’s basketball

Vermont 61, Maine 53

BURLINGTON, Vt. — The University of Maine women’s basketball team (1-18, 0-6 America East) trailed by as many as 21 but fought all the way back to cut the Vermont (7-12, 4-2 AE) lead to six late in the second half.

But the Black Bears failed to climb over the hump, dropping the contest, 61-53, on Wednesday evening. Liz Wood poured in a career-high 22 points on 8-for-16 shooting while also pulling down nine rebounds to earn the freshman Maine’s America East Player of the Game.

Ashleigh Roberts added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Black Bears who ended the game shooting 39.6 percent from the field while outrebounding the Catamounts 31-30.

The Catamounts had three scorers total double-figures as they were led by Annie Wheeler’s 14 points and four rebounds.

St. Joe’s 74, Mount Ida 49

NEWTON, Mass. — Saint Joseph’s (11-7, 5-2 GNAC) raced past Mount Ida College (6-12, 0-6 GNAC), 74-49, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women’s basketball contest on Wednesday evening.

Freshman center Morgan Cahill scored a career-high 24 points off a 10-12 effort from the field and a 4-4 performance from the free throw line in the victory.

Cahill scored eight of the Monks’ first 10 points over the opening four minutes and Saint Joseph’s rattled off a 19-4 run on the way to securing a 27-10 cushion with nearly nine minutes remaining in the first half. The Monks proceeded to own a double-digit lead for the rest of the contest and held a game-high 29-point advantage after Cahill netted a pair of freebies midway through the second stanza.

UNE 59, WIT 43

BOSTON — Led by senior Beth Suggs’ team-high 13 points and nine rebounds, the University of New England women’s basketball team topped Wentworth Institute of Technology, 59-43, on Wednesday evening at Tansey Gymnasium.

With the win the Nor’easters have now won eight straight contests and remain undefeated in Commonwealth Coast Conference play at 9-0 (13-4 overall).

The Nor’easters found themselves behind early as senior Jordan Biggar (Beverly, Mass) would sink a layup to put the Leopards up 12-8 with 11:15 remaining in the half. Biggar was the leading scorer for Wentworth on the night, registering 12 points off the bench.
