Paul A. LaPlante

1924 – 2013

LEWISTON — Paul A. LaPlante, 88, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, Jan. 12, with his loving family by his side following unexpected health complications.

He was born in Uxbridge, Mass., Oct. 7, 1924, the son of Albert A. LaPlante and Mary G. (Grisetti) LaPlante. Paul grew up in Uxbridge and attended local schools. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a World War II veteran. He attended Bowdoin College.

After he moved to Auburn, he began his life-long employment with The Lee Group, then known as Advance Auto Sales located on Franklin Street in Auburn. He worked his way up from sales to management after which he held a wide variety of positions including general sales manager, vice president and general manager. He “retired” in 1989 after 34 years with the company.

Even after his retirement, he continued his relationship with the Lee Group in some capacity until his death. He was an adviser for the board of directors and attended monthly meetings.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and watching sports on TV, especially the Patriots, Boston Celtics and Boston Red Sox.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gladys; three daughters, Laurie Cote and husband, Francis, of Minot, Nora Doucette of Lewiston and Nanci Cole of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Lt. Col. Michael Cote (USAF), Barbara Larrabee, Chris Cote and Eric Doucette; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Albert A. Laplante Jr.

A gathering to celebrate his life is planned for a later date.
