PARIS — Selectmen will discuss progress on a draft fireworks ordinance, the town’s police services, the public parking lot at Market Square and Gov. Paul LePage’s budget proposal at Monday’s meeting of the Board of Selectmen.

The Policy and Procedure Committee was charged with writing a fireworks ordinance last year after several complaints around Independence Day. The committee has questions for selectmen, which will be addressed Monday, according to the agenda. Selectmen and the committee will also discuss the board’s overall charge to the Policy and Procedure Committee.

The board is still looking at options for police coverage, including paying the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office to cover the town.

Last year, the board received a proposal from Sheriff Wayne Gallant on the cost for police services that was higher than what the town pays for its own force.

By Gallant’s estimation, it would cost Paris about $672,000 for the first year for setup costs and $568,000 for subsequent years. For the 2012-13 fiscal year, Paris paid about $506,000 for the Police Department.

In a note to selectmen, Town Manager Amy Bernard said she spoke with the owner of the Market Square Restaurant, who said restaurant customers sometimes use parking behind the restaurant that the prospective buyers of the old fire station on Pine Street want to use for event parking at their proposed event center.

Bernard proposed making the parking lot public parking for anyone’s use, which seemed agreeable to both parties.

Bernard will also outline the impact that Gov. Paul LePage’s proposed state budget could have on the town’s budget and mill rate.
