JAY — Police are looking for a local man who fled on foot after they stopped a vehicle he was riding in Friday afternoon near Bean’s Corner.

Michael Gatcomb, 29, was a passenger in a truck on Route 133 when Wilton police Sgt. Chad Abbott recognized him and stopped the truck with assistance from Sgt. Troy Young.  Gatcomb left the truck and fled across a field.

Police were still searching the area at 6:30 p.m. He may be armed and is to be considered dangerous, Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

Gatcomb is wanted in Franklin County for domestic assault and violation of conditions of release. He’s also wanted in Kennebec County for failure to stop for an officer, criminal speed and violation of condition of release. He is out on bail for felony theft.

White and Jay Detective Richard Caton responded to help the two sergeants in the search as did officers from Wilton, Farmington, Franklin County, Maine State Police and the U.S. Border Patrol.

Franklin County and state police provided tracking police dogs, White said.

Anyone with any information on Gatcomb’s whereabouts is asked to call the Jay Police Department at 897-6766.
