LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine has teamed up with Phoenix Karate Academy to offer the Little Sparks Toddler Karate program. The classes begin on March 2 and will be take place every Saturday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. until April 6.

Little Sparks was created exclusively for children ages 2 to 4. This class helps to develop listening skills, teaches children how to follow directions and take turns. The students also work on balance, tumbling and basic karate blocks, as well as stranger danger self -defense. This is a half-hour class packed full of fun and learning.

Phoenix Karate Academy are the founders of Pinan-Do Karate which translates to “Peaceful Way.” They believe that karate should not be used as a way to cause harm to others but rather as a way to unlock one’s hidden strengths and weaknesses and use these lessons to discover individual purpose.

Cost of the six-week program is $50 for YWCA members, $60 for nonmembers. Space is limited. For more information, call the YWCA of Central Maine at 795-4050.
