TURNER — Junior forward Andrew Middleton tossed in a game-high 23 points and the game-clincher as Leavitt discharged Gardiner 58-57 in KVAC boys’ basketball action Saturday.
The Hornets (6-10) had slid from a one-point halftime lead to five down in the last minutes of regulation. Middleton scored the final six points of the game, including a field goal with 20 seconds remaining to put Leavitt on top for the win.
Mitchel Davis and Isaiah Calder posted 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Hornets.
Senior forward Jenson Orwiler recorded a team-high 20 points with four field goals from three-point range for the Tigers (7-9).
Mountain Valley 69, Wiscasset 53
WISCASSET — Jake Theriault drained 24 points to lead Mountain Valley to a 69-53 victory over Wiscasset in boys’ basketball action Saturday.
The Falcons (12-4) applied most of their offensive pressure in the first and last quarters, taking a 37-23 margin in those two frames. Dom Haines chipped in with 12 points for Mountain Valley.
Dale Peaslee tossed a team-high 17 points, while Jennings Souza pitched in with 14 points for the Wolerines (9-7).
Girls’ basketball
Rangeley 46, Forest Hills 32
JACKMAN — Taylor Esty tossed in 19 points and Tori Letarte added 12 as Rangeley rolled over Forest Hills, 46-32, in a girls’ basketball game Saturday.
The Lakers (15-1) took an 18-15 lead at the half and exploded with 18 points in the third quarter.
For Forest Hills, (14-3), Kori Coro scored eight points.
Boys’ hockey
Skowhegan 3, Poland/Gray-NG 1
AUBURN — Poland/Gray-New Gloucester notched the first goal, but Skowhegan roared back with three unanswered to skate off with a 3-1 win over the Patriotic Knights in Eastern Class A boys’ hockey action Saturday.
Anthony-James Paul netted a pair of goals for the Indians (11-2-1), with Chase Nelson adding the third.
Nevin Rand got things started for Poland/Gray-NG in the opening frame with a goal 5:47 into the contest. Calvin Shelley was spectacular for the Patriotic Knights (2-9-1), turning back 38 of the 41 shots he faced in the loss.
St. Dom’s 3, MHW 1
KENTS HILL — Brad Berube scored a pair of goals and Dillon Pratt scored his first varsity goal as St. Dom’s (9-3-1) did away with Maranacook/Hall-Dale/Winthrop with a 3-1 victory in a hockey game Saturday.
Berube scored his first goal on a Will Desmarais assist at 3:25, but the Hawks’ (7-4-2) Jared Hanson scored to tie the game in the first period.
After a scoreless second period, Pratt scored his first varsity goal without assistance to put the Saints up, 2-1. Berube followed with second goal with assists from Calvin Stewart and Bryan Bonenfant.
EL 3, Waterville 1
AUBURN — Sophomore forward Branden Dyer had a goal and two assists to lead Edward Little to a 3-1 victory over Waterville in boys’ ice hockey action Saturday.
The Panthers opened up the game with a goal. But, the Red Eddies (4-7-2) countered with a pair for a 2-1 lead after one.
Edward Little added an insurance goal in on a power play in the second period. And, defense ruled for the remaining time in regulation as the Red Eddies held on for the win.
Goalie Kaleb Kane made 20 saves for Waterville, while goalie Zachary Gosselin prevented 17 for the win in net for Edward Little.
