Lewiston Police Department Lt. McGonagle confirmed an unidentified male was walking along the tracks by Whipple Street around 3:30 a.m. Sunday when he was struck.
According to McGonagle, the train was moving slowly through the city when the conductor saw the man on the tracks.
He confirmed that the conductor followed all safety protocols, blowing his whistle several times and applying the brakes.
