Genealogy group to meet Feb. 9

FARMINGTON — The Sandy River Valley Chapter, Maine Genealogical Society, will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Farmington Public Library.

Nancy Porter will talk about diaries and daybooks that were kept by some of the very early residents of Farmington. The information found in them maybe of interest to the genealogist and family historian. Anyone with an interest in genealogy is welcome to attend.

Knights to hold free supper

JAY — This month’s free public supper will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Knights of Columbus hall on Main Street. Doors open at noon and serving is from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Menu will be turkey a la king, vegetable, corn bread, cole slaw, soup, dessert and drinks. The friend of this month’s supper is Ranor Mechanical.

Ash Wednesday Worship Service

INDUSTRY — Ash Wednesday Worship Service with imposition of ashes will be held in the Sanctuary at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Shorey Chapel, 1109 Industry Road. All are welcome.

Homemakers luncheon planned

CHESTERVILLE — The North Chesterville Extension Homemakers met on Jan. 17 at the Chesterville Town Office. During their meeting, the major topic for the evening was to plan a luncheon in February.

The Free Senior Citizen Valentine Luncheon will be on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Chesterville Town Office, 409 Dutch Gap Road. Serving of the meal will begin at noon. It will consist of ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, molded jello salad, rolls or biscuits, cranberry sauce, pickles, decorated cupcakes, regular and sugar-free ice cream, coffee, tea and punch.

Entertainment will be provided by Randy and Travis Pinkham. Teresa Besson will also entertain with her harmonica. After the meal, there will be a craft table for those who wish to participate and there will be a free magazine giveaway table available.

FARMINGTON — The Clearwater Homemakers will hold a program on Nova Scotia at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at Shorey Chapel.

‘Victory Garden’ dinner theme

FARMINGTON — The Farmington Grange will hold its “Love Letters from the Victory Garden” dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, in the upstairs main hall of the Farmington Grange Hall, Bridge Street.

Experience fabulous food, great live music from the South Strong Road Crew and friends, and old love letters from the 20s to the 40s when Victory Gardens were all the rage.

Dances of the era will be taught by a local expert, so come and try them out, or just eat, watch and enjoy the musicians.
