LEWISTON — James A. Williams, 83, of Lewiston, passed away on Feb. 5, at Russell Park Nursing Home after a long illness.

He was born Dec. 15, 1929, and schooled in Calais and moved to Lewiston in 1948. He was employed with Bates Mills and was later self-employed as a painter. He loved hunting, fishing and attending the horse races at Lewiston Fairgrounds.

James is survived by his daughter, Elaine and her husband, Ray Shannon, of Delta Junction, Alaska; sons, Steve Williams of Topsham and Dennis Williams of Falmouth, Mass.; in-laws, Mrs. Julien St. Pierre of Lewiston, Mrs. Marguerite Thibault of Lewiston, Mrs. Denise Morin of Lewiston, Phil and Yolande Gagne of Portland and Andy and Monique Gagne of Lewiston; many nieces, nephews and grandchildren; and his neighbor and close friend, Rita Plourde.

James was predeceased by his parents; and his wife, Yvette T. Williams.
