LEWISTON — In conjunction with the new exhibit, The Way We Worked, Museum L-A will present a children’s vacation program on Wednesday, Feb. 20 titled “What Shall I Wear to Work Today?”

Children ages 7-11 will have the opportunity to tour the exhibit, to investigate uniforms and work clothes from occupations in the Lewiston-Auburn region, and to answer the question, “Why do people wear special clothes to work?”

Participants will have the opportunity to design a uniform or clothing for a job that they can envision in their own future. The program will run from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Adapted from an original exhibit developed by the National Archives, The Way We Worked explores how work became a central element in American culture by tracing the many changes that affected the workforce and work environments over the past 150 years. It draws from the Archives’ rich photographic collections to tell this compelling story with graphics, audio components, photo flipbooks, film and numerous artifacts on the history of our national workforce.

To connect the local scene with this national exhibit, Museum L-A is showcasing the importance of music as a local industry and how the types of work, dress codes, tools and technology have changed over time in Lewiston-Auburn. Museum L-A is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for seniors and students.
