A fire which threatened to do a large amount of damage gutted two small stables in Park Street alley, between Pine and Ash streets, Lewiston, in the early hours of Sunday morning. The loss will be round $600. A stiff wind was blowing and this caused some alarm at first, for the stables were near a number of wooden buildings, including another stable and tenement houses. By keeping the fire within the buildings, surrounding property was saved. John Carl, one of the firemen, fell through a trap door in one of the stables, and was lamed up by the fall, but no serious injuries were received.
