BETHEL — Dr. Lawrence T. P. Stifler, president of the Board of Trustees of the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum, announces that Barbra Barrett has been appointed executive director.

MMGM is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to collecting, preserving, researching and exhibiting the world’s largest display of outstanding gems, minerals, artifacts and archives to share the cultural and natural history of mining in Maine. The museum is under construction and is scheduled to open later this year.

Barrett came to the MMGM in July 2012 as chief of operations. Previously, she worked as administrator for The Boxberry School in Oxford, where she was responsible for recruitment, fundraising, marketing and daily operations. In addition, Barrett sits on the Boards of Directors for the Mahoosuc Land Trust in Bethel, and the Boxberry School in Oxford. She lives in Albany Township with her husband and sons.
