Meals on Wheels cookbook sale

LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus Meals on Wheels is launching a fundraiser selling Meals on Wheels “Made With Love” family cookbooks for $25 each, plus shipping and handling for mail orders.

They have featured celebrities like Joan Rivers, Barbara Bush and Joan Lunden, and celebrity chefs such as Mario Batali, Paula Deen and Martha Stewart sharing personal stories and their favorite recipes.

Cookbooks are available at SeniorsPlus office, 8 Falcon Road, Lewiston, or by phone 207-795-4010 or 1-800-427-1241. Checks and credit cards are accepted. All proceeds go to SeniorsPlus Meals on Wheels.

SeniorsPlus is the Area Agency on Aging for Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. They provide meals on wheels to about 250 older adult clients daily who are homebound and unable to cook for themselves. Because of funding cuts, there is a wait list of greater than 120 older adults in the tri-county area.

FARMINGTON — A blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. All donors will receive a coupon for a buy one get one free adult lift ticket for snowboarding, alpine or nordic skiing. In addition, donors will also receive a coupon for a free appetizer or dessert from Chili’s Grill & Bar.

Currently the blood supply is low which has resulted in a critical need for all blood types.

To make an appointment, call the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS.

Potential donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. There is no upper age limit and most medications and medical conditions do not prohibit someone from donating blood through the Red Cross. A positive ID is required.
