The season of 1912 and 1913 has been a remarkable one in many ways, but for ice cutting it has been inconvenient, to say the least. In Oxford County, for the most part, there has been enough snow to haul ice, but not so in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc and Cumberland. The season is getting late and not many weeks will the ice freeze much thicker so it behooves the ice men to get in their supply right away. Not so much will be cut and there is sure to be a shortage next summer, so if a man has plenty of room he better put in all his ice house will hold for it will sell well next summer.

Short-sleeved shirts in warm weather were ruled out last night by the Lewiston Police Commission. The possibility of wearing short-sleeved shirts in the summer months was aired as the commission discussed clothing allowance items and the long-sleeve advocates outnumbered those who saw nothing wrong with hairy arms or bony limbs. Chief Joseph H. Farrand reported that the women traffic guides have expressed a desire to obtain a new-style hat. There were no objections. The ladies also would like short-sleeve summer blouses, which also were not ruled out.
