Food Pantry is open Friday

OTISFIELD — The Food Pantry will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, Rayville Road. The pantry is open on the fourth Friday of every month. For more information, call 539-4619.

Ski talk, slide show at church

BETHEL — West Parish Congregational Church, UCC, on Church Street will sponsor a ski talk and slide show at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.

Scott Andrews of the Ski Museum of Maine will show the slide show titled, “Schuss-Boom and Schuss-Bust: Fast-Paced Growth and Face-Plants in Maine Skiing from 1967 through the 1980s.”

A public supper will be held prior to the talk. The menu includes baked beans, casseroles, homemade pies and homemade rolls. The cost of $8 covers both the supper and the talk.

Author Wixson church speaker

NORWAY — The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Norway will present Maine farmer, author and itinerant Quaker minister, Jennifer Wixson at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24. The church is at 479 Main St. Childcare is provided and social hour follows the service.

Rev. Wixson has been a regular guest speaker at both the 1st Universalist Church of Norway and the West Paris Universalist Church for more than 12 years.

Her sermon is titled “Sacred Cow” and it will explore the tension between loving and yet killing the animals that provide non-vegetarians with meat. She will bring a first-hand Maine farmer’s spiritual prospective to the topic, yet also draw upon the philosophy of other cultures, particularly Native American.

Her new novel, “Hens and Chickens,” is the first in a series of novels, The Sovereign Series, set in the mythical small town of Sovereign, Maine (pop. 1,048). She lives in Troy, where she and her husband raise Scottish Highland cattle.

Discussion on eReaders, tablets

PARIS — The Paris Public Library will host another eBooks, eReaders and Tablets Discussion Night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26. This will be an interactive session where attendees can learn how to download eBooks from the library, learn about other eBook sources and obtain more general help using devices.

eReader and tablet assistance will also be provided on a drop-in basis on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Just bring in your device and any questions that you may have.
