1919 – 2013

BETHEL — Alberta Helen Abbott Angevine, 93, of Bethel, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 8. She was born on March 6, 1919, the daughter of Albert and Rena (Hoyt) Abbott.

She was educated at Rumford Point and graduated in 1936 with honors from Stephen’s High School in Rumford. She also attended one year of junior college at Nasson and one year at Kent’s Hill Academy, where she earned her college degree in business.

She married Ernest Angevine, March 6, 1941. In May of 1941 they moved to Bethel where they remained until their deaths.

Before her marriage, she was a bookkeeper for Charles Bartlett Lumber and Gard Brown’s garage. After her marriage, she was in business with her husband. They managed several of their own wood jobs, and also ran a Sales and Service of McCulloch Chainsaws, Skidoos and Toro products on Main Street in Bethel for over 30 years.

She had been a member of the Mundt Allen American Auxiliary #81 in Bethel for 56 years, of which she also was a past president. She was a member of the Bethel Senior Citizens, past treasurer of the Fish and Game Association, Life Member of the Small Woodlot Owners Association of Maine and the Bethel Historical Society. She and Ernest became Tree Farmers of the Year in 1992, again in 2003 and 2006. This past year, they became the 2012 State of Maine Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year.

Alberta was a lover of nature and enjoyed camping, fishing and just being outside. She loved her birds, animals and flowers. She and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Canada after their retirement in 1985.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Willard of Ruidoso, N.M.; her son, Richard Angevine and his wife, Sue, of Upton; and her daughter, Judith Coolidge and her partner, Richard Cross, of Bethel; grandchildren, Mary, Nathan, Ricky, Sheri, Kristy, Timmy, Sarah, Jessica, Victoria and their spouses, as well as her many great grandchildren.

She is also survived by Ernest’s brothers, Avery Angevine of Bethel and John Angevine and wife, Connie, of Stewartstown, N.H.; a sister, Mary Agnes Deblois of Shelburne, N.H.; and a brother-in-law, Carl Holt of Berlin, NH.

Alberta was very proud of all the accomplishments of her three children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She loved them all greatly and especially loved the visits from the little ones. She also leaves her beloved cat, Annie.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest; her son-in-law, Bryan Willard; her parents, her brother, Cecil Abbott; her sister, Elizabeth Blake; and a baby daughter, Mary Frances.

Many thanks to her wonderful caregivers over the last few months. Her girls, as she referred to them, Kate Botka, Pat Powers, Darnita Taylor and Heather Vail, with her dog, Sulley, helped keep her busy since the passing of Ernest. They became much loved members of her family.
