WALES — Bruce R. McFarland I, 55, known to family and friends as “Buddy,” a resident of Oak Hill Road, Wales, passed away early Monday morning, Feb. 18, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Sept. 4, 1957, in Brunswick, the son of Arthur R. McFarland and Laura D. (Whitmore) McFarland. He attended school in the Freeport school system.

Bruce worked as a clam digger and an insulator in construction. He loved digging clams, having his alone time in the mornings, classic country music, western movies, working with his tractor, his dog, Mecca, but especially the time spent with his family and friends.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Elaine Sirois of Wales; his children, Amanda Spaulding and companion, Matt, of Litchfield, Jennifer McFarland and her husband, Terry Wing, of Auburn, Bruce McFarland II and his wife, Shawna, of Missouri, Richard Sirois Jr. and his wife, Abby, Danielle Leighton and her husband, Daniel, and Justin Greenleaf, all of Orrington, Mark Glidden and companion, Loretta, of Lisbon; his daughter-in-law, Amber Greenleaf of Lewiston; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Barbara Moore and her husband, Bruce, of Alaska, Judy Turmenne and her husband, Doug, of Florida, Grace McFarland and companion, Mark, of Freeport; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bruce was a loving and devoted companion, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed by those that knew him. His family would like to thank Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, as well as his cousin and caretaker, Diana Anderson, and niece, Kittie Moore.
