1925 – 2013

RUMFORD — Dorothy L. Crosby, 88, of River Road, Mexico, died Monday, Feb. 18, at the Rumford Hospital.

She was born January 5, 1925, in Dixfield, the daughter of Osborne and Hazel (Littlefield) Burgess, and attended Dixfield schools.

For a time, Dorothy worked at Diamond Match Corporation and also in the kitchen at Freddie’s Restaurant.

She was married in Rumford, to Howard J. Crosby who died in March of 1974.

Dorothy enjoyed cooking and loved her time with her family and grandchildren. Her warm heart and generosity will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include sons, Randall Crosby and companion, Caroline Philbrick, of Mexico, Mark Crosby and companion, Debbie Spaulding, of Mexico, Terry Crosby and wife, Lorene, of Mexico; daughter, Donna Pyle and husband, Ron, of Bucksport; two sisters, Clara Burgess of Springvale, and Gloria Pillsbury and husband, Wayne, of Shapleigh; a brother, Paul Burgess and wife, Maria, of Woodbridge, Va.; five grandchildren, James Crosby and wife, Stephanie, of Wales, Sue Smith and companion, Matt Nee, of Lewiston, Brenda Jasper and companion, Paul Arsenault, of Jefferson, Marissa Crosby of Mexico, Trina Crosby-Hamel of Jay; eight great-grandchildren, T.J. Burgess of Lewiston, Kyle Hodgkins of Augusta, Megan Crosby of Wales, Kelsea Jasper of Jefferson, Gage Smith of Lewiston, Riley Crosby of Wales, Emma Smith of Lewiston, and Royce Crosby of Wales; two great-great-grandchildren, Kayden Hodgkins of Augusta, and Lucas Burgess of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by two sons, Gary Burgess and Wilfred Crosby; grandson, Wil (Joe) Crosby, and her companion of 30 years, Clair Barstow.
