Commercial Travelers meet

MECHANIC FALLS — Members of Twin City Council 160 of the United Commercial Travelers of America will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Bucknam Oaks. An installation of officers for the ensuing year will be held, after which a potluck dinner will be served. All members and guests are welcome to attend.

Burnt Meadow DAR to meet

BRUNSWICK — Burnt Meadow Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, of Sabattus will gather at Captain Mike’s Restaurant, 32 Bath Road, for their March 9 meeting at 11 a.m. There will be an exceptionally brief business meeting, followed by lunch, lots of fellowship and conversation.

The April meeting will be held at the home of Corley Byras on April 13 and will be a luncheon honoring the Good Citizen and Good Citizenship recipients. The guest speaker will be Carolyn Kelley, Veterans Affairs chairman, MOSDAR.

Senior Citizens Cribbage League

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Feb. 28 were: first, Roland Martel and Stan Tetenman; second, Bert Chenard and Ron Jean; third, Betty Ames and Don Haley; fourth, Gil Cote and Steve Agurkis; fifth, Arnie Burgess and Gil Cote.

Local author at Cary Library

WAYNE — The Cary Memorial Library will present a program by local author Betsy Connor Bowen at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road, across from the library.

Bowen has just edited and published “Back From Tobruk,” her father’s WWII memoir. In 1941, Croswell Bowen, journalist and photographer, joined AFS volunteer ambulance drivers and served alongside the British Eighth Army in Africa and the Middle East. Bowen will talk about her father and the book, and show WWII photographs, including some of her father’s work.

YPLAA wii bowling tourney

LEWISTON — Young Professionals of the Lewiston Auburn Area will hold their fifth annual Wii bowling tournament from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Pedro O’Hara’s.

Participants may create a team of four or register as an individual. The cost is $5 per person. There will be prizes for the winning team.

Pedro O’Hara’s will provide appetizers and there will be a cash bar.

Eastern Star meets March 12

WALES — Lakeside Chapter 60, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at the Grange Masonic Building, 322 Centre Road, on Tuesday, March 12.

The potluck supper will be at 6 p.m. and members are asked to bring a covered dish. The meeting is at 7 p.m and officers will wear street dress. The annual meeting with reports and the election of officers will ensue.

La Leche League meeting

AUBURN — Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to a La Leche League meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome.

This month’s discussion, “Breastfeeding: Great Beginnings For Mother and Baby,” will focus on avoiding and overcoming difficulties. Pregnancy is an ideal time to begin attending meetings, and mothers find continued attendance provides support throughout their breastfeeding experience. All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion.

Dillingham DAR meets March 13

LEWISTON — Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at Chopsticks Restaurant on Park Street.

Local author Annette Dorey will be the guest speaker. She is the author of “Maine Mothers Who Murdered, 1875 to 1925: Doing Time in State Prison.” Plans will also be made for the State Conference which will be held March 16-17 at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Any woman over the age of 18 who can prove a direct lineage to a Revolutionary era soldier or someone who gave aid to the Cause of Independence is welcome to join. Genealogists are available to help with documentation.

Retired Educators meet

LEWISTON — The March meeting of the Androscoggin Retired Educators Association will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the Green Ladle Restaurant at Lewiston High School. The menu will be “chef’s choice.” The cost of the meal is $10. All educators are welcome to attend. You need not have taught in Androscoggin County.

After the business meeting musical entertainment will be provided by Mitch Thomas. Members are reminded to bring a non-perishable food for a local food pantry.
