DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you know anyone who resilvers mirrors? Thank you. — No Name, No Town

ANSWER: Sun Spots has one local possibility: Silvex Surface Technology, 45 Thomas Drive, Westbrook, 761-0392, www.silvexinc.com. She spoke to Dave, 887-1810, who said he wasn’t sure if they’d be able to help you. He said for you to call him. He may need to see the mirror in order to determine if they can help.

Dave said that many antique mirrors are difficult to repair and that you may have to have someone remove any wood around it. He also said that resilvering some antique mirrors can lower their value.

You can also buy supplies (or a kit) and do the work yourself. There are directions at several websites and the process doesn’t look particularly complicated, but it does require some chemicals and considerable elbow grease.

If you decide to go that route, you can go to the library and ask the librarian to print out the instructions at howtodothings.com (http://tinyurl.com/cvofqgb).

If you want to send your mirror out of state, Sun Spots found several options:

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I hope this will help the reader who asked where one could find an old window cleaner, Glass Wah (Feb. 21). I think she means Wah-la Glass and Mirror Cleaner from www.livegreenway.com. — No Name via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was reading your column on Feb. 21 in regards to the request for Glass Wah. I believe they were asking for Glass Works, which I have used for years. However, I haven’t been able to find it these past several years. — Don, New Vineyard

ANSWER: Sun Spots didn’t find it online either. But she did find this homemade cleaner at www.care2.com (green living). The website claims this formula will help remove the build-up from commercial cleaners:

Combine ¼ cup vinegar, ½ teaspoon liquid soap or detergent and 2 cups of water in a spray bottle. Shake to blend and spray on your windows.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Poland-New Gloucester Class A hockey game was at Auburn’s Ingersoll arena on Feb. 20. I am very disappointed that it was not in the sports section. Out of the three home arena teams that played that day Poland-New Gloucester was not in the high school hockey review on either Feb. 21 or 22. Why? — Brenton LaFrinea, lafrinea@aol.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots gets this question regularly during tournament season. The problem is that there are far more games than the Sun Journal has reporters. The sports department relies on coaches to call in the data on their games. Ask your coach to call, or volunteer to do it yourself, to have the score and important plays appear in the local sports section.
