JAY — Orrin “Buddy” S. Martin Jr., 66, a resident of Keep Road, Jay, passed away Sunday, March 3, at his residence following a courageous 3½ year battle with cancer.

He was born July 20, 1946, in Gardiner, the son of Orrin S. Martin Sr. and Doris (McKechnie) Martin. Buddy attended school in Sidney and was a 1966 graduate of Williams High School in Oakland.

Throughout the years, he worked in textile and woolen industry at Cascade Mill in Oakland, Bates Mill in Augusta, Wyndott Textile in Waterville, Carlton Woolen in Winthrop and Tex Tech in Monmouth.

On Dec. 24, 2005, he married Alta Turcotte and they made their home in Jay. In his younger years, he was a member of the 4-H Club, Sidney Grange and the Sidney Fire Department.

He enjoyed playing guitar and jamming with friends and family; he also loved old country music, dancing, tractor pulls, country fairs, fishing, camping, car shows and his “63” convertible Ford, which he referred to as “ His Baby.”

He is survived by his wife, Alta Martin of Jay; his daughter, Laurie Bouchard and her husband, Bill, of Fairfield; his son, Scott Martin and fiancée, Heather Bona, of Benton; his stepson, Donald Knox of Livermore; two stepdaughters, Melisa Knox and her partner, Terri, of Fayette and Tammy Knox and her partner, Kashin, of Livermore Falls; his brother, Ken Martin and wife, Sadie, of New Sharon; his sister, Marilyn Martin of Madawamkeag; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Destynee, Jordyn, Tyler, Ashley, Justin and Lorissa; several nieces and nephews; and his former wife of 34 years, Louise Martin.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Barney Martin in 2005; brother-in-law, Leroy “Skeeter” Turcotte; sister-in-law, Becky Turcotte; his father-in-law, Eugene Turcotte; and his mother-in-law, Ruphelle Turcotte.
