In her letter, “End illegal immigration” (March 3), Mary Jane Newell asks that all “illegal immigrants” be rounded up and interned in camps just as all those Japanese were interned in camps during World War II.

Oh, my!

Many citizens, me included, believe that horrific treatment of law-abiding Japanese citizens, based entirely on their nationality, was an embarrassment.

It would be a big challenge to find space for 12 million non-citizens.

“Illegal” immigrants — what does it mean?

Many came here as guest workers or on a visa, perhaps as students. Who knows what horrific, life-threatening situations some of the non-citizens have escaped from? I do not see them as criminals but as desperate people. If there are criminals, they must be dealt with.

After they are all caught and interned, she would have them deported. At whose expense? How? Will they travel by plane or train or will someone drive them home? It all sounds rather expensive.

I believe there is a rational and workable solution to the non-citizen problem. It is certainly not Newell’s.

Newell also claims that Democrats will do nothing about the immigrants as she believes they are all voting for the Democrats. I have not seen any credible documentation of voter fraud. If the Republicans are smart, they will get off that bandwagon.

On Meet The Press, March 3, Tom Brokaw said,”We should be expanding voter rights, not restricting them.”
