DEAR SUN SPOTS: How can I become a member of the School Committee in Lewiston? Many thanks for any help. — Grammy via email

ANSWER: For an answer to this question, Sun Spots called the Lewiston superintendent’s office, where she spoke to Diane, who offered up some information and then referred her to City Clerk Kathy Montejo.

Kathy said that members of the School Committee in Lewiston are elected. There is one representative for each ward and one at-large member.

If you would like to run for the committee, you start by picking up nomination papers. They will be available sometime in mid-July, and will be due sometime around Labor Day for the November 2013 election.

You will need to collect 50 to 100 signatures from registered voters who live in your ward, or if you want to run for the at-large seat, you can collect those signatures citywide.

If a School Committee member resigns during his or her term, the mayor appoints a replacement and the City Council then votes to approve. The City Council will be voting on just such an appointment for Ward 3 on Tuesday.

Sun Spots guesses you could let the mayor know you’re available in case another member resigns.

MADAM SUN SPOTS: You are the largest diamond in the Sun Journal’s crown. I never miss your column.

Can you tell me where I can get a listing of school colors for the elementary schools, high schools and colleges in the Lewiston-Auburn area? I am making hats, scarves, socks, etc., and would like to get the colors right for my projects, which I will soon market with a knitting friend.

Perhaps you and readers will be able to help. Many thanks. — Carolyn Libbey.

ANSWER: No crown jewel here. Sun Spots did not even know that elementary schools had their own colors. When she was in school, the entire district used the same colors as the high school teams.

She found some websites for higher-level sports teams that include their colors, but nothing for elementary schools. Perhaps readers can help.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like to know of any consignment shops in the Lewiston-Auburn area. I crochet doilies, 18-inch doll clothes and afghans but not enough to rent a table at craft fairs. — No Name via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots has one local source: Maine Vintage & Consignment at 18 Main St., Lisbon Falls, www.mainevintageconsignment.com, 353-2216. If other stores are willing, please write to the column.

Another option is to use eBay or etsy.com (the website for crafters and artists to sell their products).

DEAR SUN SPOTS: It’s that time of year again. The Fabric and Craft Supply Fair at High Street Congregational Church (106 Pleasant St., Auburn) will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6.

This is the sale where you gather all your unused fabric and craft supplies and sell them to other crafters. This fair is for the supplies, not the finished item. Or, you may donate your supplies to the church to sell at their tables.

Tables rent quickly, so don’t wait to the last minute. For more information or to rent a table for $20, please call me at 753-0367. Please leave a clear message; calls will be returned. Thank you. — Judy McKinney, Auburn, jwmckinney1157@gmail.com
