Auburn/Lewiston 5-6 grade basketball
The Auburn/Lewiston YMCA 5th and 6th grade boys travel team completed its undefeated season and claimed the championship this past weekend. A/L went 10-0 during the regular season and 5-0 during the playoffs to capture the A division title of the Cape Elizabeth Travel League.
A/L faced an extremely tough Westbrook squad on Sunday to capture the crown, winning 45-42. Down by two with 12 seconds left in the game, Ethan Brown sank a three point shot to put the team up by one. After Westbrook missed a shot, Austin Brown secured the rebound and was intentionally fouled by a Westbrook player. He sank both free throws to secure the victory.
A/L was sparked in the second half by the tenacious defense of Christian Belliveau, who stole the ball at mid court and sprinted down the court for a clutch layup. Belliveau finished with four points. Ryan Theriault provided strong post play, leading the team with 16 points. Ethan Brown had 11 points, followed by Austin Brown with seven points and Caleb Yarnevich with six points. Joel Stubbs went two for two from beyond the three point stripe.
