Plumbing inspection in Lewiston is a joke and a farce. Such was the gist of the evidence before the Maine Legislature’s judiciary committee Wednesday afternoon at the hearing on the bill to repeal the law if 1911, providing for the inspection of plumbing. The assertions were made by J. W. Kerrigan and John B. Smith of Lewiston and before they had concluded their observations upon the law, some very pointed things had been said to Senator Morey, who introduced the bill and was the only person to appear in its behalf before the committee. Mayor Morey stated that it was wrong to specify that a practical plumber be a member of the board of health, as it gave a class of men the right to dictate who should be on the board.

The Auburn Parking District has revised its rules which apply to overtime parking, boosting the “voluntary contribution” for parking tickets which remain outstanding after a prescribed period of time. In one of the new rules, any person who fails to pay the 50-cent “voluntary contribution” for an overtime parking violation in a metered zone, within a 72-hour period, will have to pay one dollar instead of the fifty cents. Should a warrant be obtained for such a violation, the “voluntary contribution” would then be two dollars. All other parking violations which are punishable by a “voluntary contribution” of two dollars will be boosted to three dollars if not paid within the 72-hour period and to four dollars if a warrant is issued in connection with the violation.
