DEAR SUN SPOTS: I need the contact information for the gentleman in charge of applications for veterans’ names to be put on the memorial stones in Veterans Park in Lewiston. I think his name is Bert, but I am not positive. Thank you for your help. — No Name via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots guesses you are thinking of Bert Dutil, who is very involved in veteran affairs in L-A, but he is not the current contact for the applications for the memorial stone engraving.

Applications can be obtained by calling Joe Paradis at 786-0488 or Maurice Dutil, vice chairman, L&A Veterans Council, at 784-1206. (Sun Spots does not know if Maurice and Bert are related.)

Completed applications can be sent to the L&A Veterans Council, P.O. Box 2316, Lewiston, ME 04241. The next stone will be dedicated May 25.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read a request from a student from Kentucky (not sure if that’s the state) who was requesting information on Maine. They’re doing a class project and need any and all information about Maine. I would like the student’s address so I can forward some information to them. Thank you. — audreybrown@myfairpoint.net

ANSWER: Sun Spots has not published one of those requests in ages. Perhaps you saw it elsewhere?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can I buy the Falmouth vs. Scarborough game and also the March 9 game between Falmouth and Lewiston from you? — Patrick via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Several years ago when TV broadcasts switched to digital, adapters were made available to convert the digital TV signal to analog so that older TVs could still get off-the-air reception. Is there anyone who still has such a converter, and is willing to sell it for a reasonable price? If so, please contact me. — G. Lachapelle, 225-2111

ANSWER: You can also buy a used box on eBay.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a suggestion for the person seeking mirror resilvering (March 5). One trick to use, particularly on a mirror that needs resilvering but would be expensive or difficult to resilver: Back the mirror with a new mirror, cut to the same size. This is usually a great deal less expensive than resilvering.

Of course, many other considerations might affect this option, such as the condition of the present silvering, beveling or etching on the glass, and whether the present silver should or should not be removed, but it may be an option. Hope this helps, and good luck. — No Name via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Feb. 23 as old man winter gave us an unexpected flurry of activity, I was overwhelmed by the generosity, kindness and friendship shown by residents of Phillips and the surrounding communities. You packed the Avon Town Hall to overflowing. I was so happy to be able to be there for a little while and see most of you.

I would like to send a special thank-you to the people who helped on this day, Winona Davenport , Pam Mathews, Katie Rolfe and many more behind the scenes. We will be forever grateful for your love and support during this difficult time. — Nana and Kermit Haines, grammanan@tds.net
