WINTHROP — The film “Living for 32,” focusing on the story of Colin Goddard, a survivor of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, will be shown at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at the Winthrop Center Friends Church, 219 Winthrop Center Road, as part of a community focus on the central issues involved in the use and misuse of weapons.
The film showing is co-hosted and co-sponsored by the Winthrop Center Friends (Quaker) and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Winthrop focusing on the uses and control of guns. The film follows up on a few of the key questions raised in “Guns: A Community Forum” on March 3.
In “Living for 32,” Colin Goddard, a student at Virginia Tech in 2007, started the 911 call during the attack. He also developed a fire in his heart to do something about keeping dangerous people from having easy access to deadly weapons. The killer had two semiautomatic handguns, dozens of 10- and 15-round magazines and 400 rounds of hollow point ammunition.
After recovering from being shot four times, undergoing arduous physical therapy to regain his ability to walk and finishing his degree, Colin decided that he was going to volunteer for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the nation’s largest gun control organization. And he was going to convince them to sponsor him in wearing a hidden camera and going undercover into gun shows all across America to prove how easy it is for anyone to buy a gun with no identification, no Brady background check and just a wad of cash. “Living for 32” is his story.
Winthrop Center Friends and St. Andrews share the building at 219 Winthrop Center Road, on Route 135 South approximately a mile from Route 202.
