FARMINGTON — The Mt. Blue Regional School District Music Department has announced the March concert schedule for area school music ensembles. This concert series celebrates the local March Music in Our Schools month along with music programs across the country in conjunction with the National Association for Music Education. Included are music ensembles from Academy Hill, Cape Cod Hill, Cascade Brook, Mt. Blue Middle and Mt. Blue High schools.
Wednesday, March 20, begins the concert series with the String Celebration under the direction of Nancy Beacham and Steven Muise. Student musicians in the fourth, fifth, sixth, Mt. Blue Middle and Mt. Blue High School orchestras will be performing at 7 p.m. in the Mt. Blue High School gym. Also performing are the middle and high school Franklin County Fiddlers.
On Thursday, March 21, the district Band-a-rama will feature the fifth, sixth, Mt. Blue Middle and Mt. Blue High School bands under the direction of Karen Beacham and Darryl Pike. The Mt. Blue Middle and High School jazz bands as well as the high school jazz combo will also be performing at the 7 p.m. concert in the high school gym.
Concluding the concert series at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, is the district Chorus Festival under the direction of Lindsay Burke, Mark Phillips and Carol Shumway. This concert will feature the fifth, sixth middle and high school choruses as well as the Mt. Blue Middle School Show Choir, the Mt. Blue Voices and the MBHS Chamber Singers. The Chorus Festival will be held in the Mt. Blue gym.
In case any concert is canceled due to inclement weather, the concert will be rescheduled on Thursday, March 28, at 7 p.m. in the Mt. Blue High School gym.
As is tradition, the Mt. Blue Music Boosters will be serving Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream for $1 a bowl immediately following the concerts in the high school Food Court. Also available at each concert will be Music Boosters Summer Scholarship forms for those students in grades 4-11 who wish to apply for financial help for summer music camps and lessons.
