BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society has announced that it has received a $500 grant from the Maine Humanities Council in support of its 2013 Lecture Series, “Trails, Trials and Tourism: Capturing the Maine Experience.”

Among the programs supported by the grant will be the society’s annual History Symposium on April 13, a gallery talk during an exhibit preview in early July and a lecture on Sept. 14 by David B. Field, author of “Along Maine’s Appalachian Trail.”

The winter 2013 issue of the society’s newsletter, the Broad Street Herald, will be mailed out soon. The lead article is devoted to the recently-received bequest from the estate of long-time society member and volunteer Mary E. Valentine.

The newsletter also contains a list of 2013 programs at BHS, including the March 30 Women’s History Month screening of the film, “Reaching Out for Liberty & Light: The Life of Frances Payne Bolton.”
