WEST PARIS — Richard E. Varney, 73, of Oxford, passed away Sunday, March 17, at Ledgeview Living Center.
He was born in Lewiston, March 13, 1940, son of Eugene and Estelle (Safford) Varney.
Richard was a graduate of Norway High School, Class of 1958. He attended Bliss College in Lewiston with an associate degree in accounting. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. Later he, along with his brother opened and operated Varney Brothers Construction until retirement.
He was an avid outdoors man, enjoying hunting, fishing and antique cars and loved his dogs, “Butchie,” “Carolina” and “Mr. Nuggets.”
He is survived by his brother, John Varney and wife, Charlotte, of Oxford; nephew, Kenneth Varney of Oxford; great-nephews, Craig and Ryan Varney; and great-great-nephew, Jeremy.
