POLAND — Teachers, coaches and administrators from RSU16 (Poland, Mechanic Falls and Minot) will go up against one another in inflated sumo-suits. The event, called the Sumo Smackdown and Showdown, will get under way at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at the high school, 1457 Maine St.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Knights Pride Boosters Club’s building fund. The club has no permanent concessions facilities, either indoors or out. This event will jump start an effort for a permanent outdoor location.
The main activity of the evening will be “wrestling” matches between some of the district’s teachers, coaches and administrators. In addition, high school students from each grade will wrestle each other in hopes of coming away with top honors.
There will be an “Olympics” event as well as meaningless trivia segments, both of which will involve its participants competing while wearing inflated sumo suits.
Concessions will be available. There will be a 50/50 raffle as well as chuck-a-duck for kids. Activities such as line dancing, giant Twister games, and knock-out will be free to audience members between matches.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. Admission prices are adults, $8; students, $5; and children age 4 and under, free. For more information, call 998-5686.
