FARMINGTON — Local churches will participate in ecumenical services offered by Farmington Area Ecumenical Ministry and hold individual services in observance of Holy Week.

Henderson Memorial Baptist Church and Summit Faith Community will remember the Last Supper Jesus shared with his disciples in Jerusalem at a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. March 28.

A meditation “Re-Membering Jesus” will be offered by the Rev. Susan Crane; both pastors will serve Communion by intinction.  The service will close with a Tenebrae remembrance of the events following the Last Supper. Readers will extinguish candles after each reading until the sanctuary is dark and the congregation leaves in silence.

A community Good Friday service, sponsored by Farmington Area Ecumenical Ministry, will be held at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church from noon to 1 p.m.

Area clergy and lay readers will offer meditations about the Stations of the Cross and prayers of remembrance. The meditative service is based on a liturgy developed by the Iona Community in Scotland. Moments of silent prayer will be interspersed with the Taize chant, “Jesus, Remember Me.” All are welcome to come and remember the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth.

An Easter sunrise service sponsored by FAEM will be held at 6:20 a.m. March 31 on Voter Hill. A service led by participating churches and accompanied by area musicians will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Coffee and refreshments will follow.

The breakfast is free, but donations are appreciated.  The menu includes scrambled eggs, baked ham, hot cross buns or muffins, crepes with strawberries, juice and coffee.

Henderson Memorial Baptist Church and Summit Faith Community will worship together on Easter morning at 10:15 a.m. The two churches share the building, but normally hold separate worship services at different times.

The Rev. Crane will open the service with a meditation, “At the Break of a New Day.” Pastor Goding will bring the Easter message.  The Henderson Memorial church choir will sing “Because He Lives,” the congregation will sing traditional Easter hymns, and the Summit Faith worship band will offer contemporary Easter music.
