AUBURN — On Sunday, April 7, at 7 p.m., The First Universalist Church of Auburn will screen the premier of “Two Who Dared” in honor of Yom HaShoah, the Holocaust Day of Remembrance.

The documentary tells the story of American minister Waitstill Sharp, and his wife Martha, who boldly committed to a life-threatening mission in Europe to help save imperiled Jews and refugees at the onset of World War II.

Answering a call for Unitarians to serve as relief volunteers in Europe, the Sharps committed to the dangerous undertaking. They left their own children in Massachusetts and traveled to Czechoslovakia. Together they battled political and social blockades, broke laws to get exit visas for those in peril and laundered money on the black market in order to enable the clandestine transportation of refugees. Over the course of two missions, in Prague (1939) and in Southern France (1940), the Sharps and their underground confederates played a vital role in saving thousands from persecution.

The church is at 169 Pleasant St., across from Dairy Joy. Suggested donation $5, to defray the rental costs. Parking and accessible. For more information call 783-0461 or visit www.auburnuu.org/uuauburn.
