FARMINGTON — A fire Wednesday night at an Industry Road home was caused by a malfunctioning electrical system, Farmington fire Chief Terry Bell said Thursday.

The home is owned by Linda Shipley of Freeport and rented by Timothy Koenig. Koenig and his dog were not there when the fire started, Deputy Chief Tim Hardy said.

The fire caused significant damage, he said.

Sgt. Ken Grimes and Mary McMaster of the State Fire Marshal’s Office were at the home Thursday morning to help determine the cause. They believe the fire started in a bedroom in the back of the home.

Fire departments from Wilton, Strong, Industry, Temple, Jay and New Sharon assisted in extinguishing the blaze, which was reported at 9:14 p.m. The home is beyond the intersection with Middle Street.

It was unclear if the tenant or homeowner had insurance. An estimate of damage was not available.
