Ice out contest is now open

PHILLIPS — The third annual Toothaker Pond Ice Out Contest is officially open. Predictions can be registered for $2 a ticket. Tickets are available at Phillips Hardware, 5K Pizza and Camden National Bank. Dora Dill and her daughter, Celeste Reid, are also selling tickets. They may be contacted at 639-2238 or 779-7822.

All predictions must be placed by April 15. The forecaster with the closest prediction, including date and time, will receive half the total of the money raised through the sale of the tickets. The other half of the proceeds will be donated to the community organization or charity of the winner’s choice.

Area retired educators meet

LEEDS — The April meeting of the Androscoggin Retired Educators’ Association will be held Wednesday, April 10, at the Leeds Community Church. The business meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The ladies of the church will serve a turkey dinner with all the fixings. The cost of the meal is $9. Following lunch Crystal Ward will present a travelogue on her recent trip to Panama.

Directions to the church: Take Route 202 toward Augusta. Turn left onto Route 106 just after Springbrook Golf Course in Leeds. Follow Route 106 about six miles and turn left onto Church Hill Road. The church is at the top of the hill. There is a parking lot on the left across from the church.

Dinner benefits animal shelter

FARMINGTON — A benefit dinner for the Franklin County Animal Shelter will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Old South Church.

Menu will be spaghetti, sauce, meatballs, salad, garlic bread and dessert. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children. Take out available, call 778-2638 before 5.

Class on acrylic painting

TURNER — Participants in an MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education class will create their own realistic, one-of-a-kind acrylic masterpiece. Class will begin Tuesday, April 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. The fee is $75.

Instructor Janet Glatz will teach the fine point of acrylic painting. Glatz has been exhibiting her work throughout New England for over 20 years. Students need to bring paints, brushes, pencils, erasers and their creative minds.
