FARMINGTON — Three western Maine improv comedy teams will square off against Rhode Island’s Boom Scones at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13 in Laughletics Improv Comedy Mud Bowl 2013 in the University of Maine at Farmington’s Lincoln Auditorium.

Mud Bowl 2013 pits friend against friend, teacher against student, comic versus comic. Hosted and refereed by Laughletics’ Jimmy Sorrel, the festivities involve teams challenging one another to the sorts of improv games seen on television’s Whose Line Is It Anyway? The audience provides not only the suggestions for the actors, but also the final verdict. Who wins and loses depends upon the crowd’s applause.

Facing off that evening will be Mt. Blue High School’s Curtain Raisers, the University of Maine at Farmington’s Lawn Chair Pirates, and western Maine’s Teachers Lounge Mafia. While the groups often share the stage, this time it is winner take all. They are up against the Rhode Islanders of Boom Scones, seasoned improv veterans who perform across New England including the Portland Improv Festival. While cutthroat competitors all, the performers are really out there to make people laugh.

Last February, Mt. Bue Campus hosted the Lovers’ Quarrel, where these same teams faced one another in brutal improv comedy battle. Boom Scones ruled the day and other teams are looking for a little payback. This event serves as a major fundraiser for the Mt. Blue Curtain Raisers as they make plans for their annual sojourn to Boston. Each spring for the past eight years, the group has attended workshops and performed at Cambridge’s ImprovBoston.

Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Admission is free but a $5 donation will be accepted at the door. For more information, email dryder@mtbluersd.org or call 207-778-3561.
