RUMFORD — There were no injuries and only minimal damage from a fire in a co-generation room at NewPage paper mill on Monday, mill spokesman Anthony Lyons said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to a firefighter.

Workers were doing maintenance in the room when the fire began, Lyons said. It was reported at about 11:30 a.m. and six town departments responded.

“The fire was discovered immediately,” he said. “We reported it to the Fire Department and they had it extinguished by 12:10.”

The co-generation room was cleared, and once the fire was out the workers continued maintenance there, he said.

Firefighters from Rumford, Dixfield, Mexico, Andover, Bethel and Peru at the scene. Further details were not available by late Monday afternoon.
