WESTBROOK — Portland Ovations will present Spellbound Dance Company at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9 at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center, Westbrook Middle School as part of the company’s U.S. debut.

Founded in 1994 by choreographer and artistic director Mauro Astolfi who creates works of expression rooted in poetic, emotive and dynamic bodies that create shifting geometries in space with equal parts athleticism and elegance. Spellbound has charmed audiences throughout the world with performances at festivals in Italy, Spain, Croatia, Serbia, Germany, Austria, Belarus, France and Thailand.

In their Maine debut, Spellbound will perform Lost for Words, a blend of graceful fluidity and stunning virtuosity; She is on the Ground, an amusing, reflective work, and Downshifting which occupies a space of great simplicity and sparseness.

Spellbound is dance of pure, lush movement free from restraint and rich in passion and emotion.

Immediately following the performance, stick around for a question-and-answer session with the artists from Spellbound.

Westbrook Middle School is at 471 Stroudwater. Tickets for Spellbound are $26 to $33 for Ovations members; $28 to $36 for the general public; and a limited amount of $15 student tickets are available.
