FARMINGTON/JAY — Laura Dunham of Temple, a senior at Mt. Blue High School, and Melanie Robitaille of Jay, a senior at Spruce Mountain High School, North Campus, have been selected to receive the 2013 Principal’s Award at their respective schools.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Laura is extremely deserving of this award due to her dedication to her studies and her involvement in several extra-curricular offerings at Mt. Blue High School. Laura has challenged herself with Advanced Placement and honors courses, and she is also currently enrolled in the biotechnology offering at Foster Career and Technology Education Center.

She has been especially involved in leadership positions at Mt. Blue High School, serving as a student representative on the school Leadership Team for two years, as well as cheerleading captain, public relations officer for the Student Council and Treasurer of the National Honor Society.

In addition, she was recognized as Student of the Month and received the Society of Women Engineers Award her junior year.

Melanie Robitaille of Spruce Mountain is self-motivated and dedicated to her school and community. Melanie has challenged herself academically throughout her high school career while participating in several extracurricular offerings at Spruce Mountain High School.

She has been especially involved in leadership positions at Spruce Mountain High School, serving as RSU 73 school board student representative, as well as student council secretary for four years. Melanie is an active member of the National Honors Society, four year member of the Envirothon/Explorer post, as well as a math team member for three years. She is associated with a local youth ministry and is a dedicated volunteer in the community.

Melanie is the daughter of Michael and Regina Robitaille of Jay.

Laura Dunham, Principal Monique Poulin, Melanie Robitaille, Principal Thomas Plourde and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor on Saturday, April 6.

The luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, who were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.
