BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Roy “Gabby” Bamford, 72, of Livermore, went home to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 30, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born to and predeceased by Roscoe Bamford and Gladys (Williamson) Bamford, Jan. 29, 1941 in Langtown Plantation.
Roy graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1958. He then joined the Coast Guard. He began his career in the paper industry at the Otis Mill in Chisholm at 19 years of age. He transferred to the Androscoggin Mill, Jay, where he was president of the union for a period of time. He retired from Madison Paper Industries in 2003. Following retirement, he and Brenda traveled in their RV to Alaska and back, completing their goal of seeing all 50 states.
Roy was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Wilton. He was also on the board at Blueberry Mountain Bible Camp in Weld. Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, all New England sports and wintering in Florida. What he loved the most was spending time with family — preferrably around a campfire. He was a gifted story-teller. Family and friends never tired of hearing him spin a yarn.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Brenda; his children, Howard (Stacey) Bamford, Kathy (Jeff) Merrill, Kimberly (Christopher) Beaudoin, all of Livermore, Shelby (Bradley) Somers, Halifax, N.S., and Louise Ross, Lawtell, La.; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Joyce (Richard) Barker, Wakefield, N.H., Fay (Robert) Barker, Livermore and James (Wanda) Bamford, Clopton, Ala.
