POLAND — Amanda Gibson of Mechanic Falls, a senior at Poland Regional High School, has been selected to receive the 2013 Principal’s Award, Principal Cari Medd has announced. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

“Amanda has continued in the tradition of strong leadership as our student body president,” said Medd. “Her strength of character, active citizenship and devotion to our school community has made Poland Regional High School a better school. She has challenged herself in the classroom, on the athletic field and in service to the school and she is highly respected by her teachers and her classmates.”

Gibson, Medd and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor on Saturday, April 6.

The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.
