1933 – 2013

AUBURN — Peter G. Fleury, 79, of Auburn, died on Saturday, April 6, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, following a long illness.

He was born in Winthrop on May 11, 1933, the son of the late Leonidas and Dorilla (Fleury)  Fleury and had been a resident of this community all of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps from Jan. 1, 1951 to Jan. 15, 1954.

Peter married the former Lorraine C. Guay on Aug. 20, 1955, and she died on June 25, 2001.

He was employed for many years in the local shoe industry and was a custodian for St. Peter’s Elementary School prior to his retirement.

Peter was past president of the Fraternal Snowshoe Union and was currently an active member of the Franco-American War Veterans.

He is survived by a son, Gary Fleury of Livermore; two daughters, Linda Provencher and Debra Leone, both of Auburn; a brother, Raymond Fleury of Lewiston; a sister, Silvia Herrick of Auburn; four grandchildren, Shawn Leone, Scott Downs and his wife, Meagan, Lynn Gross and her husband, Josh, and Nicole Lacroix and her husband, Aaron; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Androscoggin Hospice House and everyone else who has helped out the family during Peter’s illness.
