JAY — The town will pay slightly less in the 2013-14 fiscal year than it has been for operation and maintenance costs at the Livermore Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Livermore Falls owns the plant, and Jay and Livermore Falls share the cost of operation and maintenance, based on sewage flow treated at the plant.

Jay selectmen voted unanimously Monday to set Jay’s share at 53.3 percent beginning July 1. That is down from 54 percent this fiscal year.

Livermore Falls selectmen also must vote to set their town’s rate at 46.7 percent. It is up slightly from this year’s 46 percent.

All of the flow values for the year are entered into a formula to determine the percentage each town will pay during the upcoming fiscal year.

Jay’s share in 1995-96 was 44.3 percent and it continued to rise until 2008-09 when it was set at 60.5 percent. It has been on the decline since then with next year’s flow being the lowest since 2002-03 when it was 52.4 percent, according to information presented to Jay selectmen by Mark Holt, superintendent of the Jay Sewer Department.
