LEWISTON — 2013 is the fifth anniversary of the Hospice House 5K & Remembrance Walk. The event has grown substantially over the years to include three locations and more than 500 participants.

This year, events will be held in Farmington on May 5, Oxford Hills on May 18 and in Auburn on May 19. All events begin at 9 a.m.

There will be a certified 5K & Remembrance Walk held in Auburn at the Central Maine Community College, a Remembrance Walk in Oxford Hills at Oxford Hills Christian Academy and a non-certified 5K & Remembrance Walk in Farmington starting at Meeting House Park. Registration is $20 per person ages 13 and over. There is no fee for children 12 and under.

While there is no required fundraising minimum, participants are encouraged to raise at least $100 each. Proceeds from the HH 5K & Remembrance Walk are dedicated to supporting care at the Hospice House for patients who do not have adequate health insurance. In previous years this has totaled as much as $69,000. The goal for 2013 is $50,000.

Electricity Maine is joining Baxter Brewing as a major sponsor of the Hospice House 5K & Remembrance Walk.

“Like Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, they are local Maine companies that share a commitment to supporting the community,” said Julie Shackley, president/CEO Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.

Baxter Brewing began sponsoring the event in 2011. “We are proud and honored to support such a worthy cause as the Hospice House through the sponsorship of this event,” said Luke Livingston, Baxter Brewing president/CEO.

“My Mom spent 10 amazing days in the Hospice House at the end of her life in January 2009 and it was her passing that gave me the courage to go out and write the business plan that would eventually become Baxter Brewing Co.,” said Livingston. “I owe a great deal of gratitude to the folks at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.”

“We selected them because of the trusted reputation they’ve built in their service communities, providing quality in-home health and hospice care for area residents,” said Candace Sanborn, vice president of marketing, Electricity Maine.

Several recognition opportunities are available for both family and company teams reaching fundraising levels including team name on a plaque, team name on a paver lining the Reflection Trail and recognition on an outdoor bench. All will be located at the Hospice House.

Each participant will be able to tie a ribbon with their loved one’s name on it to the 2013 Memory Wreath. The wreath will travel to each event location and following the final event in Auburn will be on display at the Hospice House.

This year, teams will be able to compete in the best T-shirt contest. Awards will be presented at each event location.
