I read with interest and agreement the April 5 Sun Journal editorial “Putting guns in schools is a naive idea.”

I feel that some Republican politicians are hoping that if they keep repeating their useless remedies to the school violence in this country, most of the American people will believe them.

The worse remedy they have come up with is putting an armed guard in every school, expecting that will solve the problem.

People who attack helpless children in schools may be lacking a few synapses in their brains, but they have all been shown to be capable of meticulous planning.

It should be easy to assume that any unbalanced person planing an attack on a school would include the surprised shooting of the armed guard as his first priority. Then he would be able to proceed with his mayhem with little interference.

An armed guard subject to a surprise attack would prove to be just about useless.
