LEWISTON — The Rev. Roger W. Dunning, 87, of Mechanic Falls, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 13, after a long battle with Parkinson disease. Roger had been a resident at Russell Park Manor in Lewiston for nearly a year.

Roger was born in Sebasco, the youngest child of William and Vesta Wallace Dunning.

He married Marilyn Holbrook in 1952 and they made their home in Phippsburg until 1967. They relocated to Mechanic Falls to pastor the Nazarene Church, which was in the early stages of construction. During this time, he completed the study courses necessary to become an ordained minister. After leaving the Nazarene Church, the Rev. Dunning founded the Evangelical Christian Mission Church, which worshiped at Dunn’s Chapel in Poland. In recent years, the couple attended the Oxford Advent Christian Church, where they have many dear Christian friends.

Roger loved being at camp, trading vehicles, boating, attending hymn-sings, and learning to play instruments with his friends in later years.

He is survived by his faithful and supportive wife of 60 years, Marilyn, who spent every day at the nursing home attending to his needs. They have two daughters, Glenda Mitchell of Mechanic Falls, Brenda Deojay of Portland; and son, Warren, who resides in Dixfield; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Mitchell of Poland, Katie Deojay Cragg of Portland, and Jeremy Deojay of Norway; three great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant son, William; his six siblings, Richard, Harvey, Sherman and Lee Dunning, Mina and Lettie Smith.
