JAY — Douglas B. McDonald, 81, a lifelong resident of Jay, died peacefully, late Tuesday, April 16, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Jan. 5, 1932, in Riley, the son of Frank W. McDonald and Thelma (Winslow) McDonald. Doug attended school in Jay and was a 1950 graduate of Jay High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 serving in Korea and Japan.

On June 29, 1956, in Jay, he married his wife of 56 years, Barbara Gammon. He worked for International Paper Co. at the Otis and Androscoggin Mills in Jay, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the International Paper Co. Quarter Century Club and a life member at the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 in Jay. He was an avid race car fan and raced stock cars at Oxford Plains Speedway from 1960 to 1970.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara McDonald; his children, Barry McDonald and his wife, Cheryl, Bonnie McDonald, Brian McDonald and significant other, Karen McCourt and Belinda Frechette and her husband, Maurice “Moe,” all of Jay; eight granddaughters, Sara Fullerton and husband, Mark, Jaime Roberts and fiancé, Krys Lepcio, Melissa, Cassandra and Kristina Frechette, Jennifer and Jake Letendre, Lindsey McDonald and friend, Gerald “Yogi” Hiscock and Renae McDonald; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Colton Fullerton and Kohen Lepcio; his brothers, Alvin and Kathleen McDonald, Olin and Anita McDonald of Jay, Vernon McDonald of Wilton, Brent and Patty McDonald and Clovis and Vicki McDonald; and his sister-in-law, Peggy McDonald of Jay.

He was predeceased by his sister, Muriel Tripp; brother, Carrol McDonald; and sister-in-law, Dottie McDonald.
