Katie Lachapelle continues to excel in the coaching world.

The 1995 Lewiston High School graduate and former women’s college player at Providence College has carved a niche as a top assistant coach in women’s college hockey over the past decade.

Thursday, USA Hockey announced that Lachapelle, currently the assistant coach at Boston University, has been named as an assistant coach of the U.S. Women’s National Under-18 Team.

In her five seasons with the Terriers, Lachapelle has helped turn BU into one of the top programs in the country. The Terriers have won three Hockey East titles and advanced to four consecutive NCAA tournaments during her time at BU, including national title game appearances in 2011 and 2013. She received the 2013 Women’s Ice Hockey Assistant Coach Award from the American Hockey Coaches Association.

Lachapelle will be making her Team USA coaching debut with the 2013 U.S. Women’s National Under-18 Team, however, she has coached at USA Hockey camps the past five summers, helping at various Girls’ Select 14, 15 and 16 Player Development Camps. She will be joined as an assistant by Boston College associate women’s ice hockey head coach Courtney Kennedy. Princeton head women’s ice hockey coach Jeff Kampersal will serve as head coach.

The Lewiston, Maine, native will help lead the U.S. Women’s National Under-18 Team at the 2013 Women’s Under-18 Series against Canada in Lake Placid, N.Y., from Aug. 21-25, and at the International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Women’s World Championship that is anticipated to take place in the Spring of 2014.
