WALES — Ryan Riordan began the season in style Friday. The Oak Hill senior hurler struck out 11 batters and fired a no-hitter as the Raiders blanked Madison 6-0 in the teams’ MVC opener.

Riordan and Jake Martin each belted doubles for the Raiders (1-0), while Sam Morin’s two hits led both teams. Martin’s double keyed a four-run third-inning that helped set the tone for the rest of the contest.

Fryeburg 3, Poland 2

POLAND —   Cody Lowe cracked a two-out single to plate the eventual game-winning run for Fryeburg in the eleventh inning as the Raiders secured a 3-2 victory over Poland in WMC baseball action Friday.

Nick Kiesman shined in the tenth and eleventh innings for the Raiders (2-0).

With two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning, he threw out a potential game-winning run as Jake Simard tried to score. And, he scored on Lowe’s single in the top of the eleventh.

Kaleb Bridgham was the only repeat hitter for the Knights (1-1) with a single and double on four plate appearances.

Leavitt 7, MCI 6

PITTSFIELD —   Leavitt recovered from a four-run surge by MCI with a four-run rally of their own in the seventh and held on for a 7-6 victory over Maine Central Institute in baseball action Friday.

Gabe Seeley pitched to just one batter to close out the Huskies’ four-run sixth to earn the mound win for Leavitt. Starting pitcher Marshall Weiss faced 17 batters and struck out seven.

Josh Bunker earned the save in relief, striking out two for the Hornets.

Mt. Ararat 2, Oxford Hills 1

TOPSHAM —   Brandon Morrell smashed an RBI double in the fourth inning for the eventual game-winning run as Mt. Ararat notched a 2-1 victory over Oxford Hills in KVAC baseball action Friday.

The Eagles (1-1) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Gabe Pelletier scored the first run as an unearned tally for Mt. Ararat.

Reid Drouin earned the mound win for Mt. Ararat, while Dalton Rice took the loss for the Vikings (1-1).

Softball

MCI 8, Leavitt 2

PITTSFIELD —  Candace Fowler cracked three hits and limited Leavitt to four from the circle as MCI dropped the Hornets, 8-2, in KVAC Class B softball action.

Fowler fanned five and walked one for the victory. She also belted a double. Vicki Drake and Carla Newhouse had two hits apiece for the Huskies (1-1). Michelle Morin drove in the first Leavitt (0-2) run with a tripe and scored the second on a ground out.

Oxford Hills 12, Mt. Ararat 7

TOPSHAM —  Abby Bernier homered and doubled to lead a 14-hit explosion for Oxford Hills in a 12-7 win over Mt. Ararat in a KVAC softball slugfest.

Taylor Johnson added two doubles to the offensive onslaught for the Vikings (2-0). Crystal West had two hits and also picked up the victory in the circle. Taylor Pare led the Eagles (0-2) with two doubles.

Madison 20, Oak Hill 2

WALES — Madison pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of six Oak Hill errors to post a 20-2 win over the Raiders on Friday in the teams’ season-opening MVC softball contest.

Emily McKenney struck out six batters to earn the win for the Bulldogs (1-0), while Hilliary McKenney and Savanna Kandiko rapped a double each.

Sadie Goulet and Kelsey Collins shared pitching duties for the Raiders (0-1).

Fryeburg 2, Poland 1

POLAND —   Pinch-runner Julia Quinn scored the eventual game-winning run for Fryeburg in the third inning on a misjudged fly to center by Sydney Charles. The Raiders dispatched Poland 2-1 in WMC softball action Friday.

The fourth inning proved disappointing for the Knights (0-2). With the bases loaded and one out, a lazy fly ball behind third base was caught by short stop Charles, who made the catch and then doubled up the runner at second base.

Melora Lavoie tried to get things going for Poland in the bottom of the sixth inning by plating Paige Brousseau. But, they failed to produce any more runs, including leaving runners on first and third in the bottom of the seventh.
