LEWISTON — “Keep in Mind; Be Kind” is the message that members of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council will be sharing with three classrooms at Montello Elementary on Friday, May 3: kindergarten, third grade and sixth grade.
LYAC is currently promoting the anti-bullying message, suggesting a positive alternative to bullying. LYAC members have been working on three different age-appropriate presentations to talk with students about what a bully is, how bullying makes others feel and ways to handle bullying.
Various approaches will be taken in the classrooms to include skits, dialogue, opportunity to sign a “I’m a Be Kind Kid” pledge card (www.thebekindpeopleproject.org), viewing a video made by children titled “What It Means to Be Kind?” and writing and drawing on the topic.
LYAC will also be handing out Keep in Mind; Be Kind stickers and rubber bracelets, compliments of donated funds from the Lewiston Firefighters Association. LYAC hopes that the “be kind” message will gain attention and spread throughout the community.
